InClassica International Music Festival continues with Hero's Triumph at Coca-Cola Arena on Friday 24 September 2021.
Richard Wagner's Siegfried-Idyll is the composer's only symphonic poem and one of his most popular compositions.
Johannes Brahms's Symphony No. 2 proves how the composer, in the best sense of the word, was deeply rooted in tradition.
As the conductor of the Russian National Orchestra, Alexander Shelley combines Wagner's and Brahms's music with Alexey Shor's Cello Concerto in F major.
The soloist is Alexander Knyazev who also played the cello part at the première of the concert.
Like Brahms, contemporary composer Alexey Shor also draws inspiration from the past.
However, the second movement of his concerto is full of romantic longing and endless melodic lines, that would be unthinkable without Wagner's influence on 19th century music.
